The Technical University of Munich is legally represented by the president, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Wolfgang A. Herrmann. 

According to Art. 11 Abs. 1 S. 1 BayHSchG, the Technical University of Munich is a public body with the right of self-government under the laws, and at the same time a state university (state institution), according to Art. 1 Abs. 2 Satz 1 Nr. 1 BayHSchG. The Technical University of Munich perceives its own affairs as a corporate body (corporate affairs) under the legal supervision of the supervisory authority, state affairs as a state institution (Art. 12 Abs. 1 BayHSchG).
