UQ20 will take place on the Garching campus of TUM in the north of Munich. The easiest way to get to the Garching campus is by metro. The closest metro station is "Garching Forschungszentrum" which can be reached with the metro line U6.

How do I reach UQ20 from Munich airport?

Take the S-Bahn S1 to “Neufahrn”, and from there the bus no 690 to “Garching Forschungszentrum”. The estimated travel time is about 40 minutes.

How do I reach Munich city center from the airport?

Take the S-Bahn S1 or S8 to “Marienplatz”. The estimated travel time is about 40 - 50 minutes.

How do I reach UQ20 from Munich city center?

We recommend that you start your trip or connect at “Marienplatz” (S-Bahn, metro lines U3 and U6) or “Odeonsplatz” (metro lines U3, U4, U5, U6). From there take the metro line U6 in the direction "Münchner Freiheit" to "Garching Forschungszentrum". The estimated travel time is about 25 minutes.

 

Where can I buy tickets and how much is the cost?

Tickets are available online or at ticket machines located at the airport or the metro station stops. For bus trips, you can buy a ticket with the bus driver.

 

Ticket prices (as of May 2019)

  • one-way ticket from the airport to the Garching campus (not traveling via Munich city center) à 8.70 €

  • one-way ticket from the airport to Munich city center à 11.60 €

  • one-way ticket from Munich city center to the Garching campus à 5.80 €

  • one-way ticket from Garching city to the Garching campus à 1.50 €

If you plan to make a return trip from Munich to Garching on the same day, we recommend to purchase a Single Day Ticket (Munich XXL) at a cost of 8.90 €.

The pass Isar Card Weekly is valid on seven consecutive days. Note that the price for the Isar Card Weekly depends on the number of rings you pass during your journey. Refer to the tariff map to determine the number of rings. The metro stop “Garching Forschungszentrum” is located at the intersection of ring number 7 and ring number 8.

  • From the Munich city center to the Garching campus you will typically require 7 rings at a cost of 35.10 € per week.

  • From Garching city center oder Garching Hochbrück to the Garching campus you will require up to two rings at a cost of 17.10 € per week.

Note that all tickets are valid for trips with the S-Bahn, metro and bus. There is no need to purchase a new ticket when changing the means of transportation.

Parking options on the Garching campus are limited. We recommend using the nearest parking garage "Galileo" in Walther-van-Dyck-Strasse 6. The walking distance to UQ20  is approximately 5 min.
